One Fine Day 01:41
I will return one fine day. I don’t know when, I cannot say. But as sure as the apple trees flower in May I will return to you one fine day. There’s a tangled forest inside me. I can’t find my way out - it’s too dark to see. But you’re in my dreams, you light my, and I will return to you one fine day.

From the damplands of the north - the weathered hillsides, the sodden moors - I went walking to clear my head, to think it over, what we said. To the bright lights of the town, the ins and outs of it, the ups and downs; the furtive cafes, the dark hotels, the secret courtyards, the peel of bells. And though I stumble, though I fall, I’m not done here, I’m not done at all. Well everything’s late this year, everything’s late. The pretty flowers in your hair will have to wait. There is love within us, there is love without. There is love that’s nowhere to be seen yet all about. And though I stumble, though I fall, I’m not done here, I’m not done at all. And did those feet in ancient times walk upon England’s mountains green? And was the holy lamb of God on England’s pleasant pastures seen? And did the countenance divine shine forth upon our clouded hills? And was Jerusalem built here among these dark satanic mills? Bring me my bow of burning gold, bring me my arrows of desire. Bring me my spear - oh clouds unfold! - bring me my chariot of fire. I will not cease from mental fight nor shall my sword sleep in my hand ’til we have built Jerusalem in England’s green and pleasant land and though I stumble, though I fall, I’m not done here, I’m not done at all.

I’d like to take you out for dinner sometime but that’s not going to happen in a thousand years. And I’d love to really talk to you but after all this time I guess I’ve lost my nerve. I’ve been in love with you for longer than I care to admit. You’ve always been the only one, you don’t know the half of it. They say it’s better to have loved and lost than never loved at all - well I don’t know if that’s true. When all I’ve ever wanted is the one thing I can’t have and the one thing that I can’t have is you. I’ve been in love with you for longer than I care to admit. You’ve always been the only one, you don’t know the half of it. Now your taxi’s waiting outside, it’s time for you to be on your way. And as I help you with your bags you ask “Do I look alright?” Well, what am I supposed to say when I’ve been in love with you for longer than I care to admit? You’ve always been the only one, you don’t know the half of it.

Already Gone 02:05
Telephone’s ringing, ringing off the hook. I’m not going to answer, won’t pick up. I’m not home, I’m not home. Leave a message if you want to, I’m already gone. Postman’s knocking, won’t let it be. Letters to be signed for - not by me. I’m not home, I’m not home. Leave it with a neighbour, I’m already gone. Miss my baby, miss her smile, but there’s some place I must go to for a short while. I’m not home, I’m not home. I’ve got dreams in my boots and I’m already gone.

Rooms 02:54
There are rooms within rooms, walls behind walls. You find yourself laughing at nothing at all. She’s a snowflake falling, she melts on your tongue, reminds you of stories from when you were young. You’re a shadow of yourself, you can’t keep still. You find yourself wanting, you make yourself ill. She’s a force of nature, always gets her way. The devil’s in the doubles at the Second Chance Cafe. Tumbling, tumbling, falling awake from a dream within a drama within a life of mistakes. She’s the penny in your pocket, the tonic to your gin. She pins you to a table saying “Come on let me in.” It’s not the colour of your money, it’s the cut of your jib, the fire in your belly, the ink in your nib. Drifting, you’re drifting, she calls when she calls - you find yourself laughing at nothing at all.

Bedhead Sally sings her joy - praise indeed for her handsome boy, Moonlight Mick, lean and lithe. Eager to please, happy to oblige. And it’s hey ho, the wind and rain, never thought I’d have such loving again. Hey ho my bonny-o! Will you stay with me or will you go? Shortwave Clare, nary a care, first with the gossip in the market square. Halfway Ron, here and gone, knows way more than he ever lets on. Hey ho, the wind and rain, never thought I’d have such loving again. Hey ho my bonny-o! Will you stay with me or will you go? Doe eyed Eve, heart on her sleeve, the things she’s seen she can’t believe. Dead dead Pete, dead on his feet. Whatever it was, it’s way too late. Hey ho, the wind and rain, never thought I’d have such loving again. Hey ho my bonny-o! Will you stay with me or will you go?

Footsteps 03:57
I hear your footsteps cross the bedroom floor, the rattle of your keys in the front door. And now I’m awake I can’t hear you anymore. Seems I wasn’t what you were looking for. Now I come downstairs, put the radio on, there’s not a lot new here since you’ve been gone. The cat, he’s still sleeping. Thinks he’ll see you anon. Such a shame that this wasn’t the one. Though sometimes I’d feel like that puppy in the shop you almost you brought home then decided best not. Now I sit in my window, contemplating my lot - a joke, smiled at and quickly forgot. Birds in the trees singing their song. Sounds like the morning will soon be along. Are you thinking what I’m thinking? Where we did we go wrong? It was sweet while it lasted and sad now its gone.

I Miss You 04:30
Nobody ever loved anyone more than I love you. I sleep lightly, leave the radio on, helps to get me through. I miss you, it’s killing me. I miss you, I’m falling apart at the seams. Everyone says “Give it time for the wounds to heal. Get out into the world, hang out with friends,” but none of it seems real. I miss you, it’s killing me. I miss you, I’m falling apart at the seams. Oh my days, I’m sleepwalking through the days. And in my dream we’re always by the sea on the cusp of summer. A radio plays, it’s in the trees, it’s coming. I miss you, it’s killing me. I miss you, I’m falling apart at the seams.

Nobody knew if he was sleeping or dead. He just lay there on the ground, hands over his head. They couldn’t figure out if there was something wrong so they drank up their smoothies and moved on. She wore a red skirt, a scarf around her neck, and she waiting beside him hoping for the best. Mud on her face, flowers in her hair, she saw the comings and the goings of the people of the fayre. It’s a long walk home, farther than the long walk away. Baby I was wrong to have brought you all this way. This is not your war, it was not my place. There’s a devil inside me, goading me on. He whispers, “Day is night. Right is wrong.” It’s a long walk home, farther than the long walk away.

Ladies of the tea urns and the sacramental gin, collecting for the roof fund because the rain keeps coming in. Ladies of the flower stall - forget me not, sweet peas - gliding like swans through parish rooms in Open Gardens Week. I think of you when the days draw out, when the rambling roses climb. And blessed are the cake makers and those who set out chairs, and do for those who cannot do and remember them in their prayers. I was on the road to nowhere, I was not travelling light. Hopeless in my hopelessness, I must have been a sight. I think of you when the days draw out, when the rambling roses climb.

Meadow 04:36
Your heart is a meadow where flowers grow wild. You run like a river, laugh like a child. There’s a daisy chain crown on strawberry hair. You’re quick on your feet, you’re lighter than air. And oh, you’ve got poise, you’ve got your pick of the boys. They sit at your feet collecting like toys. You swagger so sweetly, you’d light any room. With a wave of your hand everything blooms. Well the rain came down so we ran indoors and you poured some drinks and put on The Cure. And we knew every word to every tune. It was late in the day early in June. Raindrops on washing lines, skies of grey. I love you more than I ever could say.
